The Society of Petroleum Engineers has not been a part of the College of Engineering long, however, this organization has grown significantly and has established its presence since 2015. Its purpose is to bring students opportunities for educational and professional development in the oil and gas industry as well as provide networking through social events.

SPE participated in Relay for Life as a part of the Engineers for Life team in spring 2015, created teams to play intramural sports in volleyball, and hosted several potluck dinners for members to socialize and fundraise for events and conferences. The first conference attended by members was the Offshore Technology Conference in Texas in May (2015) and allowed members to network with companies and learn about the innovative technologies utilized offshore. As we continue to fundraise, we plan on sending more members to this conference as well as other oil and gas conferences in the future. In the fall 2015 semester we also had a guest speaker from the energy industry to expand our knowledge on energy policies and also our former president hosted a webinar for our members to learn more about subsea engineering.

In (2015) I served as the Executive Board Secretary to keep members informed about events, helped with the overall organization of the club, and kept the records of member involvement. I learned a great deal serving in this position as I was able to interact with all of the club members, work with the executive board team to achieve goals, and use my resources to better inform our members.

I am currently (2017-2018) serving as the Executive Board President for the organization. This year we attended the Annual Technical and Conference Exhibition in San Antonio, TX for the first time as an organization. Our chapter accepted the 2017 SPE International Outstanding Student Chapter Award for expanding member engagement, community involvement, and increasing chapter metrics. Additionally, this past semester (fall 2017) we hosted a Puppy Social that benefited the Leon County Humane Society and supported New Life UMC with math tutoring for K-12 grades on alternating Saturday's. Our organization has been gaining interest among our students and we strive to reach out beyond the College of Engineering at FSU. One of our goals include reaching geology students or other related majors to the upstream and downstream sectors. Additionally, we are aiming to continue to serve our community in the spring semester and to increase the technical knowledge of our members. My role as President provides experience in working with a team to achieve our goals, leading board meetings effectively, coordinating our general body meetings, and overall supporting the organization for future growth.
