Students in Technology, Academia, Research, and Service Alliance is a leadership organization that participates in outreach at various high schools throughout the state of Florida as well as promote involvement on campus at Florida State University. I joined this organization last spring (2015) and dove right into getting involved with events.

One of my first events was planning and executing a visit to my high school (Spring 2015) to present and discuss with the students about technology and college programs that Florida State University has to offer. We were given the opportunity to speak to the students as a whole as well as break out into smaller groups to answer more specific questions. We have continued to visit my high school each spring since.

Also through STARS, I attended the Technology Student Association (TSA) State competition as well as the TSA Leadership Conference in the fall. I served as a judge in the state competition in the areas of engineering design and video game design and my role in the leadership conference was to present to the students and assist in the events. Topics at the leadership conference included Cyber Security and College Preparation which not only allowed me to inform students and answer questions but also to refine my public speaking skills further. Speaking in front of students, fellow collegiate, and teachers has been a key role as a leader in this organization that has only proved beneficial for developing my professional skills further.

STARS provides the core involvement for the other clubs in the College of Communications at FSU. It is an honor to be a part of this organization as we have an integral role as student leaders by collaborating to ensure the optimum events and outreach we can provide each semester.
