WISE stands for Women in IT/ICT Sharing Experiences and it provides opportunities for professional development, networking, linking students to industry, and allowing opportunities for us to grow socially.

We host several events such as Think Tanks, breakfasts, social events with other organizations and more. The Think Tanks involve discussions with a local industry leader that comes to share her experiences, advice, and exchange though provoking questions. I also participated in the Women in Leadership conference hosted by WISE in 2015 where a panel of professionals came to speak about their experience as women in the workforce and gave advice for our future endeavors. Breakout sessions from this conference gave us the opportunity to speak one on one and get to know local alumni and industry workers on a personal basis. This event was in the spring semester (2015) as well as the WISE mentor program that was founded to link younger students with a senior or junior in a similar major to help with classes, questions, and encourage involvement. The mentor program extended to professionals that mentored students.

In the fall semester (2015) we held a WISE breakfast that hosted several local industry leaders and we were able to network and listen to their experiences. It was an extremely beneficial event as I learned a great deal from their stories and advice and was even able to share my own career ambitions. There are also several upcoming events for the organization such as more Think Tanks, visits to local businesses, and a book club to read novels by influential leaders.

I have served as the President of WISE since spring of 2017. In 2017, WISE was awarded the College of Communication and Information Student Organization Group Award for our continued involvement on campus and strength as an organization. We continue to host guest speakers that allow our members to gain insight about the working world as a woman in technology and we are always looking to expand this perspective.

Currently we are in the process of recruiting new members for WISE, which is open to all majors including engineers like myself.
